Hello and welcome to another yet slightly belated MMOnday!
Apologies for the delay in this post, I fell ill last weekend and didn’t manage to have enough energy to get a post written up. I’d already done the run the previous week, but I just didn’t have the will to get out of bed and stop feeling sorry for myself to write it up!
Anyway, it’s here now, so I hope you enjoy!
Firelands 25 Man Normal
There’s a fair few items that I am still trying to farm for a complete armour set for my hunter, and the majority of it drops in Firelands. Now, this raid is one of my all time favourite raids to run, simply because of how open the layout is, and how beautiful the environment is.
Before starting the run, I decided to document how much gold I had previously, and what was in my bags to start with. All the stuff in there is stuff that I don’t want to sell, so wouldn’t affect the total gained from this run. It’s simply there because in my excitement to run the raid, I forgot to dump it all in my bank.
I started off with 2,580 gold, 56 silver and 77 copper as you can see in the screenshot below. Hello blog readers- meet Kialai and her trusty Icebound Proto Drake who is smiling for the camera!

Beth’tilac
Heading into the raid, I started straight for Beth’tilac, the spider boss. I like starting with her, mainly because I can trigger Shannox quicker by decimating the trash mobs on the way up to her lair and he spawns pretty close to that area. it makes it easier to kill her then jump down and kill mobs until he spawns.
Although raids like this are ridiculously easy now (50.02 seconds to kill her… now think back to the raid launch where guilds were spending a good 4 minutes at least downing her) I still like that some of the mechanics can really rile you up. When she continually spawns the smaller spiders who catch you in a web (especially in Heroic versions) it can become near impossible to down her when she descends from her web to the ground. Luckily, I had my trusty Direhorn Tabari to help me out.
From Beth’tilac, I recieved the following items:
- 25 gold, 78 silver, 75 copper
- Living Ember
- Spidersilk Spindle
- Mandible of Beth’tilac
- Spaulders of Manifold Eyes
- Smouldering Censer of Purity
- Smouldering Robes of Devistation.
Altogether, this boss netted me 192g, 66s, and 79c. This is simply from vendoring the items that I got.

Shannox
Next up comes Shannox. After clearing the majority of the trash on the way up to Beth’tilac, it only took killing a mob or two to get Shannox to spawn. In the past on other characters, I’ve always had a problem when he sets his dog on you and it pins you to the ground. Once again, Tabari saves the day and Shannox goes down.
From Shannox I looted:
- 23 gold, 67 silver and 83 copper
- Living Ember
- Gloves of Smouldering Smoke
- Skullstealer Great Axe
- Goblet of Anger (Bind on Equip)
- Legplates of Absolute Control
As there was a bind on equip which I am selling on the Auction House, the temporary total for this boss (using the guide sell price of the BoE item) is 176g, 81s, 84c.
Lord Rhyolith
Next on my hit list is one of the coolest bosses in the place- Lord Rhyolith. I love the tactic of attacking his legs and turning him and remember how much trouble he caused when the raid first launched.
From him, I looted:
- 25 gold, 37 silver, 51 copper
- Hood of Rampant Disdain
- Volcanospike (BoE)
- Incendic Chestguard
- Earth Cracked Bracers
- Cracked Obsidian Stompers
This takes the temporary total for this boss to 128g, 73s, 41c as I am selling the Volcanospike on the AH.
Alysrazor
Here’s one of the bosses that I’m farming… mainly for the mount that can drop. I also love the mechanics in this fight, so I don’t mind farming her at all.
I looted:
- 24 gold, 7 silver and 52 copper
- Alysra’s Razor
- Greathelm of the Voracious Maw
- Craterflame Spaulders
- Moltenfeather Leggings
- Living Ember
- Leggings of Billowing Flame
So, no mount this time :(. However, I did get an item which I will use for Transmog purposes… so not a complete waste! Not including the Craterflame Spaulders, this boss netted me 130g, 26s, 92c.
Baleroc
So, for some reason, I didn’t take a screenshot of my defeating of Baleroc- you’ll just have to believe I did. Besides, I wouldn’t be able to continue if I hadn’t!
Short and sweet, Baleroc dropped:
- 26 gold, 63 silver and 27 copper
- Shield of Torment
- Molten Scream
- Gatekeepers Embrace
- Living Ember x2
- Helm of Blazing Glory
- Glowing Wing Bracers
All this added up to: 128g, 25s, 26c.
Majordomo Staghelm
One of my least favourite bosses, especially on heroic when his cat form stuns you. However, he did drop quite a few pieces that I gave my total a boost.
- 24 gold, 32 silver 63 copper
- Grips of Unerring Precision
- Fandrals Flamescythe
- Mantle of the Fiery Protector
- Mantle of the Fiery Vanquisher
- Living Ember
- Bracers of the Fiery path
- Flowform Choker
- Jaws of Defeat
- Mantle of the Fiery Conqueror.
This gave me 152g, 13s and 23 c.
Ragnaros
And here we are, the final boss! He is the main reason I run this dungeon and I was hoping that he would finally drop the bow that I could use for transmog purposes. Alas, like most of this run, it wasn’t to be… or was it?
Happily looting my kill and adding up my loot kill…
…wait…
is that….
…IS THAT A MOUNT?
YES!
YES IT IS!
:D
Finally got one of the mounts that I have been farming for a very, very long time! The Pureblood Firehawk!
Ahem. Anyway… loot for Raggy as follows (not including the mount)
- 23 gold, 39 silver
- Vessel of Acceleration x2
- Helm of the Fiery Conqueror
- Helm of the Fiery Protector
- Living Ember x3
- Helm of the Fiery Vanquisher
- Choker of the Vanquished Lord
- Sho’ravon, Greatstaff of Annihilation
- Majordomo’s Chain of Office
Final boss total of 141g, 30s, 69c.
So, the complete boss total of this run is: 1050 gold, 18 silver and 14 copper. With the addition of vendored and auctioned items and trash my final total in my bags was 3883 gold, 56 silver and 76 copper, meaning I made around 1253 gold!
Do I think it was worth it? For the gold, not really. However, if you are running it in conjunction with other old content for money, 1.2K isn’t too bad- definitely better than nothing. For the stuff I got? Definitely! I got a mount I’ve been looking for for years and a new set of shoulder pads for my transmog set. I will be running it again to try and get the other mount from Alysrazor, but I’m not primarily running it for the money!
I hope you enjoyed this installment of MMOnday! I’d love to hear from you if you’d like to see more of this stuff! If not, let me know some of the things you’d like to see appear over on my Facebook and Twitter pages!
