Lifestyle | 3 Tips for Buying Gifts for Someone Difficult

Buying presents can be hard at the best of times; for birthdays, anniversaries, valentines day, just because…

However, Chirstmas is the time of giving, and every year I always hit the same brick wall when it comes to buying gifts for the same few people, simply because they are so difficult to buy for. I can’t bring myself to give them money or gift vouchers so that they can get something they want because I feel like that is such an obvious “I don’t know what you get you” present.

However, over the years, I have appeared to hone my skills when it comes to difficult people, and I tend to find some gifts that bring a smile to their face with very little effort!

Look Through Their Social Feeds

Now, I’m not telling you to stalk their Facebooks back to 2006, but taking a look at some of the things that the person in question has shared can often trigger gift ideas – at least for me!

Whether it’s a gig that they’ve said that they’d love to attend (but you know for sure that they haven’t got tickets yet), a new teeshirt, or even somewhere that they’d love to go, these can all be pointers to a really great present that even the person might haven forgotten about!

Search Their Interests Online

The person that you are buying for may have very different tastes to what you do, making it very difficult to know what you can buy them that they will appreciate.

However, once again, the internet is your friend. Without having to delve too far into their interests, you’ll be able to find presents which fit them perfectly that you might not have known about before.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s a teeshirt of their favourite series, a book showing behind the scenes and artwork of their favourite movie or even simply a one-of-a-kind collectible that you know they’ll love, the internet will have the answer – or at least steer you in the right direction!

Introduce Them to Something New

If you’re somewhat of a risk taker (or simply cannot think of anything that they would like), you can always try and introduce them to something new.

Now, I’m not saying surprise them with something completely random; in fact, I’d definitely avoid doing so, as a few times I did that when I was younger, the presents were abysmal. Instead, why not use what you already know about the person and try and find something similar to their interests that you may not have thought about.

For example, I like animals, which is a great base to work from, but can often be restricting if you just buy me something that is whale-related. Instead, someone buying me a present could combine my love of animals and photography (which you will be seeing more of on this blog once I get to grips with my new camera!) and buy or compile a photo book of a range of different photographs of animals! I’d love this, as I could cut out the pictures and use them in photo frames or collages around my home – or simply just have a beautiful collection of pictures!

Buying present can be extremely frustrating – believe me, I know – but it really doesn’t have to be!

Do you have any tips for buying presents for difficult people? Are you someone who thinks they are difficult to buy for? do you have any advice for us gift-givers this season? Let me know in the comments!

    1. Aww, I’m glad you enjoyed it! It’s so hard to try to be loving and giving without feeling like you’re just giving them more to clutter up their homes!

I hope you are well, Inés! We should have a catch-up soon with Marisa and Teresa in the New Year when they are back?
