Blogtober| Day Two – Favourite Autumn Activity

I think that autumn has to be my favourite season of the year. I’m one of those people who prefers to be colder than to be sweltering hot, and although spring isn’t the hottest of seasons, it starts to warm up rather that start warm and cool down.

In a way, it’s the looking forward to the weather getting colder, rather than dreading the hotter summer months coming ahead; weird, I know.

So, if autumn is my favourite season, what is my favourite thing to do when it arrives?

Read, Read and Read Again

I absolutely love reading, but it seems that the older I get, the less time I have to spend picking up that book that’s been on my “to read” pile for at least a year and a half.

However, once the colder weather of autumn arrives, I throw on my comfiest of clothes and finally give myself time to read. I think it’s because I don’t necessarily want to leave my desk at work for dinner when it’s freezing outside; I’d rather bring my food (or go get some hot food from somewhere nearby) and sit at my desk with a book in my hand.

Last year I managed to make a huge dent in Death at SeaWorld by David Kirby during my autumn readathon. I’d already started to read Killer Whales, SeaWorld, and the Truth Beyond Blackfish by John Hargrove, and I wanted to have another book that was lined up written by another expert. I’d highly recommend them both if you are wanting to learn a little more about the captive cetacean industry – there are plenty of documented interactions and expert analysis reports in them which are extremely interesting and opened my eyes even further to the plight of captive Killer Whales and other marine mammals.

What I Am Reading This Year

So, what am I going to read this year?

So far, I’m about halfway through Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton, so I’m wanting to actually finish that before the end of October. I love the film and have never thought to actually pick up the novel that it was based on until the start of 2016. I absolutely love the storyline so far and the changes to the film plot are actually quite annoying in parts – especially the beginning of the novel where the kids actually meet a velociraptor baby!

I’ve also just ordered Behind the Dolphin Smile by my ultimate idol Ric O’Barry. I’ve been wanting this book for a while, but I can’t currently afford the signed version. Instead, I’ve bought the standard version from Amazon (who completely screwed up my order, by the way, and it hasn’t even dispatched, 5 days after the due date for it to arrive. I’ve ordered from another seller and not Amazon themselves to see if I can actually get it before 2016 is over), so I can’t wait to get stuck in and read what he has to say.

I am hoping for a few book recommendations for you guys for the remainder of the cold season, so please let me know if there are any good books out there that I need to read! I’m not one for romance novels; I’m more into sci-fi, real-life kind of storylines, but I will give anything a shot if you really think that it is amazing!
